Rural Transit Assistance Program

RTAP Logo

The Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP) is a training, technical assistancend outreach program funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).  Since 1987 RTAP has developed and distributed free training materials, provided technical assistance and conducted research with the goal of improved mobility for the millions of Americans living in communities with populations under 50,000.

The Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP) operates on both state and national levels to support community transit.

National RTAP develops training materials and provides technical assistance on topics of national scope, such as basic skills for drivers, dispatchers, managers and boards.

State RTAPs help distribute National RTAP materials, identify and help resolve state-specific transit issues, and provide scholarships for attendance at regional and national industry conferences.

By providing access to free training and technical expertise, RTAP helps communities focus local resources on local transit issues, without having to cut corners on staff training. a

Training Opportunities for Arizona 5311 and 5310 grant recipients:

Throughout the grant year classes are held statewide.  The classes that are regularly offered are Defensive Driving, CPR, Basic First Aid, and Passenger Service and Safety (PASS). All classes are a limited size and are on a first come first serve basis.

In addition to these classes, special event classes offered through the Community Transit Association of America (CTAA) and National Transit Institute (NTI) are held locally as funding is available.

Rural Transit Conferences are held during the grant year. The agendas provide specific training and information geared towards the 5311 and 5310 providers.  The conferences provide a forum for transportation managers and supervisors to network and gain best practice information from their peers.

For the dates of upcoming training classes and other RTAP events please check the public transportation events calendar.

To register for a class or event that is posted on the events calendar please save the Training Registration Form to your computer and email the completed form to the RTAP training coordinator, Dan Harrigan. Within a week you will receive an email confirming your registration.

If you have a special need for a class at your agency or in your area and don't see a scheduled class available contact the RTAP training coordinator, Dan Harrigan.
